Veteran Pakistani film and television actress and director Sangeeta has opened up about her third marriage and addressed allegations of domestic abuse in her previous relationships during a recent interview.
Sharing details about her personal life, Sangeeta stated that she is currently married for the third time. Her first marriage was to Humayun Qureshi and her second to Naveed Akbar. She is now married to Tariq Maindro, a prominent film distributor in the industry, with whom she has been together for 14 years.
She revealed that after her children got married and moved on, she felt lonely, leading Tariq to propose to her multiple times. “I felt that everyone needs a companion in old age,” she explained, highlighting her husband’s calm demeanor—noting that he does not engage in verbal abuse, physical violence, or unnecessary arguments, and chooses to walk away quietly whenever she is angry. She credited their mutual practice of remaining silent during disputes as the secret to their successful marriage.
Reflecting on her past experiences, Sangeeta emphasized that physical violence is the biggest red flag in any marriage and was the main reason behind her previous divorces. She remarked that if a part of the body becomes diseased, it must be cut off. Describing the abuse she endured earlier in life, she shared that she used to arrive at film studios with visible injury marks on her body.
